Pioneer Community Hospital of Scott Closing June 26

 

            Oneida, TN (2016-06-16) Holding true to its notice to the State of Tennessee, Pioneer Health Services of Magee, MS has notified employees that it will close Pioneer Community Hospital of Scott on June 26, 2016.

            According to Tony Taylor, CEO of the local facility, employees were told Thursday morning, the facility will close on June 26, 2016 at 8:00 a.m.  The formal announcement mirrored a letter to state healthcare officials last month of the pending closure of the facility.  The healthcare provider was required to give at least a 30-day notice of closure before shuttering the facility.

            In addition to the hospital, the company will also close Family Care Clinic, its primary care clinic in Northtown Plaza.  The clinic will close on Friday, June 24, 2016.

            Per the state’s WARN Act, employees of the hospital were required to receive at least 60-days notice of the pending closure; however, an official notice reportedly has not been filed with the state.  In the absence of notice, Pioneer Health Services would be required to provide some type of severance package to employees.

One Dead, One Injured In SXS Rollover Crash on River Road

 

            Huntsville, TN (2016-05-27) One rider is dead and another injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident on River Road Friday evening.

            According to report filed by Trooper John Carr of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Danielle Kay Stahley, 25, of Saline, MI was killed Friday night when the 2015 Can-AM Maverick she was riding in went over an embankment on River Road and plunged into New River.  The driver of the SXS, identified as Joshua Michael Ward, 26, of East Bend, NC, was traveling west on River Road, when he allegedly failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his vehicle.  The SXS reportedly went over the right shoulder of the road, rolled several times, and ended up on its top at the river’s edge.  Stahley, who was riding in the passenger seat, was thrown from the vehicle, and the seat she was sitting in was torn away.  Ward and Stahley were both wearing their seat belts and helmets.  Both had reportedly been drinking. Ward, who was injured in the accident, has reportedly been charged with driving under the influence. Complete Story

 

Sexton:  Litton Covered Bridge Road Closed for Repair

 

            Huntsville, TN (2016-05-26) A 1.8 mile stretch of Litton Covered Bridge Road that recently was the center of a closure controversy has been temporarily closed to traffic. 

            Scott County Road Superintendent Donald (Dick) Sexton announced Thursday morning the section of Litton Covered Bridge Road lying outside the corporate limits of the Town of Huntsville to its terminus near the waters edge at New River will be closed until further notice.  The road department barricaded the roadway less than two weeks after the Scott County Commission voted to leave the road open to thru traffic.  The county’s action was in response to a request by two landowners in the area to close the road because of people trespassing, littering and vandalizing their property.  Complete Story

County Jobless Rate Continues Downward Trend in April

 

            Nashville, TN (2016-05-26) Scott County’s unemployment rate last month was a ten-year low, as the April jobless rate was 6.3 percent, nearly half a percentage point lower than in March.

            According to the latest statistics from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the jobless rate for Scott County in April was 6.3 percent, which was 0.4 percent lower than the March revised rate of 6.7 percent.  The number of jobless workers dipped to 500 in April, the lowest point since September 2001.  While the number of unemployed dropped by 50 over the month, the number of employed grew by just 20 (7520).  Meanwhile the labor force shed an estimated 10 workers, reporting an April labor pool of 8,030.
